After the huge success of designing and selling a bag - inspired by a trip to Italy- through Harpers & Queen magazine (now Harpers Bazaar), Anya Hindmarch went on to set up her eponymous label of handbags and small leather goods all skilfully crafted with a clever mix of British wit and Italian principles in mind. Anya Hindmarch label has garnered her an A list following from the likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller to Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson and she has designed the Oscar goody bag year after year.

Unlike most designers, Anya Hindmarch has positively used her fame to influence and spark the imagination and conscience of the general public through her creativity in promoting causes of the day. Her ‘Be a Bag’ project - in conjunction with the Lavender Trust - personalised bags with customers photographs. Over 100 celebrities such as Kate Winslet and Claudia Schiffer donated their pictures for bags that were auctioned off to raise money for the breast cancer charity. In 2007, her ‘I’m Not a Plastic Bag’ project helped to promote the importance of not using plastic bags. These sold out around the world within hours. Hindmarch was awarded an MBE in 2009.
