Trench Coats

The Trench Coat was originally designed in 1901 and worn by the officers in the British Army during the first and second world wars. It was a coat that was both stylish and practical and protected the troops from the wind and rain whilst fighting in the trenches.

It soon became fashionable, as it seemed to lend an air of mystery to its wearer but with a certain level of respected authority for being seen as part of commanding officers attire.

The trench coat has meant many things to many people since then: The coat of choice for secret agents, spies and detectives right down to our ‘flashers’, who display the outward show of conservative respectability but are wearing nothing underneath!

Famous wearers of the trench coat in popular culture were Peter Sellers as Inspector Clousau, Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and fictional hero Dick Tracy. Today the modern Trench can be seen on many celebrities including Kate Moss, Charelze Theron and Katie Holmes to mention a few.

Check out either double or single breasted trench coats from Aquascutum in different fabrics for various occasions.
