February The 14th is St. Valentines Day, and has been a tradition for centuries to send little declarations of love and appreciation to our chosen sweethearts.

The day was named after St Valentine (an early Christian Priest and Martyr), who as some legends have it, defied Emperor Claudius II, in Rome around the third century, by performing marriages for young lovers in secret. The emperor decided one day that unmarried men made better soldiers and therefore outlawed marriage for young men so as to have more potential soldiers. Valentine was jailed and ordered to be put to death. According to legend Valentine fell in love with the jailers daughter who used to come and visit him. Before his death, he wrote a letter to her and signed it 'from your Valentine' which we still use today in our Valentines greetings.

It became fashionable in the middle ages for lovers to send each other little 'Valentines' of either Chocolates, Roses, hand made love notes and cards.

There are a few different accounts of where Valentines Day may have originated from, but we think what matters is that there is a day set aside in the calendar for doing something wonderful for the object of your desire!

Sometimes its easy to take one another for granted so to have a day in honor of making someone feel loved and special can only be a good thing!
