Albert Thurston

Albert Thurston first started selling his famous braces and suspenders in his shop on 27 Panton Street, Haymarket in 1820. The business has since moved to Leicester, where all of the company’s products are now made.
The company makes clip on braces, for a more casual look and braces with leather fastenings designed to be buttoned into the waistband of traditional bespoke trousers. These leather fastenings are made from goat skin, while the braces themselves are made from a thick, pre shrunk woolen material called ‘box cloth’ – similar to the fabric which covers billiard tables.
The company has held up some of the world’s most important trousers with their robust braces including royalty, business tycoons and movie stars. Michael Douglas in Wall Street and Daniel Craig in Casino Royale have both famously enjoyed the support offered by Albert Thurston braces.
Today, Savile Row’s top tailors still fervently believe that Albert Thurston braces are the only way to keep one’s trousers up.
