Baby Shower
The Baby Shower is something of new tradition in England (inherited from our US cousins), but it’s already gained a firm foothold in our culture. Operating in much the same way as a Bridal Shower, friends and relatives of the mother-to-be (usually female) gather before a baby is born to impart wisdom on becoming a new mother and to offer useful gifts for the newborn. Such gifts include toys, clothes, cushions, blankets and good luck trinkets.
Sometimes people choose to have their Baby Shower after the child is born, in which case gifts aimed more specifically at the new mother are also welcome - anything of a pampering nature is good, as sleep will be in short supply.
