Fortnum & Mason
Fortnum & Mason has been a British institution since the early 1700’s when London was at the centre of international trade. Hugh Mason and William Fortnum had strong links with the East India Trading Company, allowing the shop to become a unique market which stocked goods that weren’t sold anywhere else. By the end of the 1800’s, F&M was a household name and well-known for stocking ‘exotic edibles’.
Today, the captivating shop on Piccadilly is much more than a food store, although that is a large part of it. Walk in on the ground level and you will be tempted with a vast selection of teas, sweets, and preserves from all over the world, as well as fresh seafood, meat and dairy from the British Isles.
The offering continues up 3 more floors with a beautiful selection of fashion for men and women, beauty and accessories, home decor, and a children’s department. Everything is immaculately displayed and kept to a high standard in true British style.
The fourth floor is home to the newly refurbished Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon (formerly St.James’s Restaurant) where you can welcome a break from the busy streets and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea, complete with delicate sandwiches and tasty cakes.
